Weekly U.S. steel output rose significantly during the week ending April 6, 2019 from the previous week. This is in line with the latest weekly production statistics published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). In addition, weekly production remained marginally higher compared to the previous week.
Domestic steel production in the United States for the week ended April 6, 2019 was 1.928 million net tonnes (NT) at a capacity utilization rate of 82.8%. It should be noted that during the same week a year earlier, production was only 1.787 million tonnes, with a much lower capacity utilization rate of 76.3%. In addition, production during the week rose slightly by 0.8% over the previous week of 1.913 million tonnes.
YTD adjusted crude steel production in the country was 26.136 million tonnes for the week ended April 6, 2019. The utilization rate of production capacities averaged 81.9% over this period. Production during this period increased by 6.8% over the previous year. The utilization rate was also recorded by a noticeable jump. According to AISI, production was only 24.472 million tonnes with a capacity utilization rate of 76.5% for the corresponding period from the beginning of the year in 2018.
