Weekly U.S. steel output showed a modest increase in the week ending June 29, 2019, up from the same week a year earlier. This is in line with the latest weekly domestic production statistics published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). Weekly production was marginally lower than the previous week.
Domestic steel production in the United States for the week ended June 29, 2019 was 1.851 million tonnes. The capacity utilization rate of the domestic plant was 79.5%. It should be noted that during the week ended June 29, 2018, production was only 1.815 million tonnes. with a much lower utilization rate of production capacity - 77.4%. Meanwhile, weekly steel production posted a slight decline of 1.2% over the week. Production for the week ended June 22, 2019 was at 1.873 million tonnes.
The total steel production in the country for the current year for the week ended June 29, 2019, amounted to 48.611 million tons. This is 5.4% more than in the same period in 2018, which amounted to 46.103 million NT. The indicator also recorded a notable jump from 76.7% to 81.8% for the year.
