The United States has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization over India's retaliatory tariffs on US steel and aluminum levies imposed by Washington last year.
In March 2018, the United States imposed 25 percent and 10 percent tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, respectively. As one of the largest steel producers in the world, India immediately condemned the move. However, India's reciprocal duties have been postponed six times due to trade dialogue between the two countries.
In June of this year, India eventually imposed tariffs on 28 American goods in response to high tariffs on imported steel and aluminum imposed by Washington.
