According to statistics from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), for the week ending December 26, crude steel production in the United States was about 1.6 million short tons, down 1.2% from the same period a week ago, and also down by 11.8% over the same period a year earlier. The capacity utilization rate stood at 72.3%, down 0.9% over the week and also down 6.2% year on year.
As of the week ended December 26, crude steel production in the United States this year was about 78.74 million short tons, down 17.7% from a year earlier. The capacity utilization rate was 67.7%, which is 12.1% less than a year earlier.
