The latest weekly production statistics show a notable drop in steel production in the country for the week ending January 16, 2021. Data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) indicates a significant decline in production volumes year on year. in a week.
Domestic steel production totaled 1.738 million tonnes over the week. The production capacity utilization rate for the week was 76.7%. For comparison: the level of production and utilization of production facilities amounted to 1.906 million tons and 82.4%, respectively, during the corresponding week a year earlier. Compared to the week ended January 16, 2020, production fell by about 8.8%.
Production for the week increased by 1.7% over the previous week, when it amounted to 1.709 million tons. Capacity utilization was 75.4% for the week ended January 9, 2021.
The main producer was the South Region, with production of 695,000 tonnes. Production in other regions is as follows: Great Lakes (621,000 tonnes), Midwest (192,000 tonnes), Northeast (158,000 tonnes) and West (72,000 tonnes). tons).
Adjusted production from the beginning of the year to January 16, 2021 amounted to 3.918 million tonnes with an average capacity utilization of 75.9%. This is down nearly 9.70% from production of 4.337 million tonnes in the same period a year earlier, when capacity utilization averaged 82.4%.
