AISI welcomes Biden's proposal for infrastructure investment

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has welcomed President Joe Biden's "America Jobs Plan", which offers significant new funding for infrastructure investments. The American Employment Plan is an investment in America that will create millions of good jobs, rebuild the country's infrastructure, and allow the United States to surpass China.

In a statement, Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO of AISI, said he appreciates Biden's commitment to rebuilding America's roads, bridges, waterways, railways, electrical grids, and other critical infrastructure using American-made steel. The proposal maintains a strong domestic procurement preference for federal-funded infrastructure projects, he said, leading to increased purchases of steel and other domestically produced products, he added.

AISI reiterated its view that disbursements are the best way to fund infrastructure. It has consistently supported the need for an increase in user fees to finance the Highway Trust Fund and other infrastructure financing mechanisms. This is important to provide confidence in the financing of long-term steel-intensive infrastructure projects.
