Steel production in 2013 will grow by 3% - Australian Bureau of Resources and Energy

According to the published quarterly report of the Australian Bureau of Resources and Energy, world consumption of steel in 2013 will grow by 4% and amount to 1 billion 550 million tons.

The basis for the growth in the consumption of metal rolling in China will be the beginning of the construction of infrastructure facilities financed at the state expense, the estimated need for metal products will be about 668 million tons (+4% by 2012).

The authorities of India announced the start of a number of infrastructure projects designed to increase the domestic consumption of metal production by 7% in 2013 to 82 million tons.

Consumption in the countries of the European Union will remain unchanged or, most likely, a few will fall compared to the levels of 2011 and 2012.

The Australian Bureau of Resources and Energy predicts the growth of world production by 3% to 1 billion 590 million tons with an increase in production in China by 4% to 732 million tons.

"The growth of production is due to an increase in domestic demand for metal rolling for infrastructure projects and a slight increase in export of metal products," explains the analysts of the bureau.

The main brake of increasing world consumption and production of steel today is Europe, where a gradual reduction in production capacities is planned and a cherished dream is the repetition of last year's steel smelting level of 170 million tons.
