The American Institute of Cast iron and steel (AISI) said on Wednesday that steel production in the United States has grown by another 0.7% over the past week, following a increase of 1.4% by the year before last.
In total, from December 16 to 22, 2012, the production of steel in the United States amounted to 1 million 840 thousand tons, which is 1.2% less than these days in 2011, when 1 million 863 thousand tons of metal were melted.
The coefficient of use of the production capacities of American steel plants amounted to 74.5% for the period from December 16 to 22, versus 73.9% a week earlier and 75.2% in the same week last year.
Recall that according to the latest data, the production of steel in the USA for the period from January to November 2012 increased by 3.2% to 81 million 442 thousand tons, compared with the same period last year (78 million 915 thousand tons).
