The geopolitical situation for Ukraine deteriorates sharply - the opinion of the expert

The international isolation of Yanukovych’s power is unprecedented in the history of an independent state Ukraine. This was written by political analyst Alexander Kramar in the printed special issue “SVIT in 2013” ​​ 1 .

The expert notes that the geopolitical situation is sharply deteriorating regarding Ukraine.

“Having put the country on“ Europe ”, the authorities have not reached any progress in relations with Russia. Moreover, the Kremlin, taking advantage of the problems of official Kyiv in the dialogue with the EU, the USA and the IMF, today can significantly neglect the interests of Ukraine than it was under the orange, ”Kramar notes.

Attempts to compensate for contacts with European leaders meetings with the leadership of Vietnam and Laos do not correct the situation.

“It is the EU and Russia who are the main trading partners of Ukraine. It is on their position that the development of domestic political processes in the state will largely depend. In addition, Yanukovych’s regime is drawn into the trade war in fact with the whole world, contrary to the negative reaction of the main members of the WTO, initiating a revision of trade conditions for more than 370 commodity positions, ”emphasizes Alexander Kramar.

According to him, given the concern of the Russian leadership, the results of the parliamentary elections in Ukraine, which attested to the victory of the Ukrainian majority, the pressure on the Yanukovych regime regarding integration into a single space, led by Moscow, is intensified.

“And the disappointment of the Kremlin officials Yanukovych only pushes to direct intervention in the course of events in Ukraine. Already now in the information space they are actively promoting the idea that the socio-economic problems of official Kyiv are caused by extremely high gas prices and limited access to the market of the Customs Union, ”Kramar writes.

At the same time, complex discussions on the appropriateness of conclusion with the authoritarian regime of the Association Agreement are ongoing in the EU. Moreover, the expert adds, the problem is aggravated by the purposeful activity to disrupt it signed by the Kremlin, and the Ukrainian United Opposition considers this document, primarily as its main chance to influence power.
