A few years ago, technical endoscopes were practically not used by diagnosticians at service stations due to their high cost and lack of economic feasibility when servicing passenger cars. However, they were actively used by field specialists serving more serious vehicles, for example, heavy trucks.
But as the design of automobiles becomes more complex, the technical endoscope becomes more popular, since with its help it becomes possible to visually diagnose the car without the need to partially disassemble the problematic unit.
Choosing an endoscope for autodiagnostics
It should be noted right away that the choice of a technical endoscope does not cause any particular difficulties. Previously, the selection of a model was limited to a pair: flexible or rigid. The latest endoscopes were optimal for engine diagnostics, and the first for body parts with complex geometry and diagnostics of individual components. But, as you can see on the website of one of the sellers of these products, video endoscopes appeared, combining in imagine the capabilities of both devices. What to focus on when choosing such an endoscope?
- Resolution. To obtain a clear image recorded online to a memory source, it is necessary that the shooting uses a resolution of about 640x640 pixels, but not less than 325x250.
- Autofocus. The camera should provide a focused and fairly clear image at as great a distance as possible. Typically, a camera built into a video endoscope automatically focuses 1-6 centimeters from the object.
- Probe length. Often it is 0.8-1 meter, which is quite enough for diagnostic work carried out by a car service.
- Chamber diameter. Here you should choose the thinnest one, but without prejudice to subsequent shooting. Many technical endoscopes have a camera that is no more than 5mm in diameter. In addition, the brightness of the backlight in more expensive models can be adjusted by hardware.
- Camera protection. Ideally, the camera should withstand immersion in automotive oils, fuels and other auto chemicals for at least a few minutes. Even though such operating conditions are excluded for the endoscope, there is still a risk of immersion of the device in aggressive environments during diagnostics.
