Applications on the economic nature of integration into the Customs Union are untruthful - expert opinion

The issues of external integration, first of all, depends on the responsibility of politicians, experts and in general civil society as a whole. This was stated by the Deputy General Director of the Razumkov Center Valery Chaly.

“The issue of joining the Customs Union is not economic. This is a political issue, and it is obvious. Otherwise, there would be no such division of people. After all, when the Foundation “Democratic Initiatives” raises the question of entering the EU, then very uniform support arises throughout the regional spectrum. And if we harshly raise the question of the Customs Union, then the separation of Ukraine immediately takes place. So this is a matter of choosing a civilizational, political choice of Ukraine, not the economy, ”said Valery Chaly.

Therefore, according to him, those who say that this is a matter of a pure economy - they say a lie.

“In principle, the opinion of citizens plays a role, but at the same time, politicians should still play a key role in external integration, to whom people delegated power, at least in parliament in the recent election. According to the survey, the question that combines all opposition forces is the issue of euro integration. Therefore, the bills incorporated now or draft statements of applications in support of euro integration are absolutely appropriate, ”Chally said.

As reported, the Ambassador of Ukraine under the EU Konstantin Eliseev believes that the entry into the Customs Union can provide Ukraine with only short -term dividends. According to him, those several billions of dollars that Moscow speaks is only a fee in exchange for the loss of the sovereignty of Ukraine in the context of the implementation of its own trade policy and refusing a course in integration with the EU.
