Izmir Turkish Steel Company Kardemir Çelik Sanayi A.
Ş. announced that it plans to build a new profile rolling plant in Bozkey, in the Aliaga district of Izmir. Investments of $30 million are planned to be commissioned in the second quarter of 2026. The expansion aims to increase production capacity, diversify the product range, and contribute to Turkey's economy and employment by providing access to new markets.
Growing demand for large profiles
Ozlem Bakyrel, member of the Board of Directors of Kardemir Çelik Sanayi, noted that the global demand for large profiles is growing due to the increasing use of steel structures. Initially, the new facility will produce 200 mm UPN, IPN and IPE profiles, with production of profiles larger than 200 mm expected by the end of 2025. Special profiles for solar power plants and mining shipbuilding will also be produced.
Performance expansion targets
In 2024, Kardemir Çelik produced 900,000 tons of ingots, allocating 500,000 tons for profiles, and the remainder for wire rods and fittings. By 2026, the volume of bullion production is expected to increase by 10 percent to 1.2 million tons. The company also targets a total production capacity of 2.5 million tons at its other facilities, including 650,000 tons of profiles and 550,000 tons of wire rod and construction steel.
