Metso expands service center to increase support for mining equipment in Chile

Finnish global engineering and technology company Metso has completed a significant expansion of its Antofagasta service center in Chile, adding 1,200 m2 of workspace and increasing the total technical workspace to 4,800 m2. This development aims to meet the needs of an increasingly demanding mining sector by providing faster, safer, and more reliable support for large-scale equipment.

Expanded infrastructure for large-scale mining equipment

The upgraded facility now includes advanced infrastructure and state-of-the-art technologies for more efficient equipment maintenance, with the center equipped for the repair and restoration of HRC™ and HPGR (High pressure grinding roller) installations, Vertimill® grinding technologies, high-performance mills for fine grinding, enrichment and dewatering equipment, including filter plate packaging services, as well as mining crushers, grinding mills, sieves and dump trucks.

Heavy-duty loading and unloading equipment

The main point of the extension is the installation:

• overhead crane with a lifting capacity of up to 140 mt, one of the largest in South America.
• A high-precision vertical lathe capable of machining parts up to 5 meters in diameter.

These add-ons allow heavy components to be processed locally, minimizing transportation needs, reducing turnaround times, and improving the efficiency of regional customer service.
