The Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanization has announced that the project of the Turkish mining company Erdemir Madencilik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.
Ş. The installation of a filter press and dry waste storage facility in Divrigi, Sivas, was approved after an environmental impact assessment of the project.
The cost of the investment is 300 million Turkish liras ($7.27 million).
According to the report, the dewatering and storage of small (cellulosic) waste is necessary to ensure the continuity of the facility's production activities. Additional advantages of dry storage include extending the life of the Derinder tailings dam, increasing the rate of water recovery, minimizing waste by reducing waste volume, increasing landfill stability and improving environmental performance.
The planned dry tailings facility will annually store 598,980 tons of small waste from the iron ore processing and pellet plant, as well as 512,967 tons of small waste from the conductor plant.
