Aluminum accounts for about 90% of the market and accounted for 50% of non-ferrous metal sales in Russia in 2024. Civil and infrastructural construction has become one of the main drivers of the growth of consumption of this metal in the domestic market. Aluminum consumption has also increased in the packaging industry. During the year, a number of projects were implemented aimed at increasing the production of aluminum packaging for food products (aluminum cans, aluminum food containers, combined packaging). Aluminum sales also increased in the energy sector due to increased production of cable and wire products. Copper sales in the domestic market in 2024 increased by 45% to 612 thousand tons. Its share in the sales structure of non-ferrous metals was 26%. The implementation of major infrastructure projects, an increase in the pace of development of the construction sector and the activation of the engineering sector led to an increase in demand for copper. The share of zinc sales in 2024 was 13% of total sales of non-ferrous metals. Zinc sales increased by 29% in 2024 and reached 293 thousand tons. Metallurgical plants, the main consumers of zinc in the country, have increased the production of galvanized metal products in response to the demands of the construction industry. The market for galvanized metal structures, which are in demand in the road, energy and bridge construction sectors, has also expanded. Other non-ferrous metals accounted for a total of 4% of sales in the Russian market in 2024.
According to the analysis of the non-ferrous metals market in Russia in 2024, sales in the Russian market increased by 28% to 2,329 thousand tons.
