In the first seven months of this year, steel consumption in Japan's construction sector decreased by 4.8 percent to 4.76 million metric tons, while steel consumption in the Japanese automotive sector totaled 6.33 million metric tons, which is 3.2 percent more than year-on-year. During the specified period, Japan's shipbuilding industry consumed 1.63 million metric tons of steel products, which is 4.6 percent less than in the same period of the previous year.
Domestic steel consumption in Japan decreased by 2.3 percent in January-July 2025

In July of this year, Japan's domestic consumption of steel products totaled 3.63 million metric tons, up 0.2 percent from the previous month and 2.3 percent year-on-year, according to data released by the Japan Ferrous Metallurgy Association (JISF). Meanwhile, in the first seven months of 2025, the country's domestic steel consumption decreased by 2.3 percent year-on-year to 24.94 million metric tons.
