Global crude steel production increased 0.3 percent in August 2025

Global crude steel production increased 0.3 percent year-on-year to 145.3 million tons in August this year, according to the World Steel Manufacturers Association (Worldsteel).In the first eight months of this year, global crude steel production decreased by 1.7 percent year-on-year to 1.23 billion tons.

In August, Asian crude steel production totaled 107.7 million tons, up 0.4 percent, while Chinese production totaled 77.4 million tons, down 0.7 percent, while Japan produced 6.6 million tons, down 3.4 percent, India 14.1 million tons, India 13.2 percent, and South Korea Korea - by 5.2 million tons, down 6.1 percent year-on-year.

The EU-27 countries produced 8.8 million tons of steel in August, which is 2.8% less than last year. During the specified period, production in Germany amounted to 2.6 million tons, which is 10.5% less than in the previous year.

In August, Turkey produced 3.4 million tons of steel, which is 10.5% less than in the same month of the previous year. In the CIS, steel production totaled 6.7 million tons, down 4.9 percent from the same period last year, while estimated production in Russia was 5.5 million tons, down 4.6 percent from the same period last year.
