Arcelormittal Sestao selects Danieli for new green steel upgrades in Spain

Spanish steel producer Arcelormittal Sestao, part of Arcelormittal's European operations, has released a new phase of its decarbonization and capacity expansion program at its Vizcaya plant in Spain. The company has commissioned Italian plant manufacturer Danieli to supply a state-of-the-art plant with pharma treatment and vacuum degasser, reinforcing its strategy to achieve zero-carbon emissions while increasing productivity and product range.

Investments in green steel infrastructure

Treatment plant to increase throughput

The Danieli-installed treatment plant will serve the existing EAF No. 1, providing full use of two electric arcs (EAFS). This upgrade will increase the plant's productivity to 1.6 million tons. Metric tons per year.

vacuum degasser for high-quality flat products

Along with FTP, a new vacuum station (VD) will be installed, equipped with mechanical dry vacuum pumps. This system will allow the production of ultra-pure steel, with precise chemical control and minimal levels of nitrogen and hydrogen.

This step expands Arcelormittal Sestao's portfolio of steel grades, especially in advanced flat products, maintenance for demanding automotive, infrastructure, and clean technology applications.
