According to customs statistics, in August of this year, exports of Japanese ferrous scrap amounted to 513,180 tons, which is 4.4 percent more than 491,652 tons in the same month of the previous year. In January-August of this year, the country exported 4.95 million tons of scrap, which is 16.2 percent more than last year.
During this period, Vietnam was the largest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 2.16 million tons, up 30.8 percent from the previous year. Vietnam was followed by Bangladesh and South Korea, which imported 835,837 tons and 826,225 tons of scrap, which is 143.3% and 26.1% less year-on-year, respectively.
Meanwhile, exports of Japanese scrap to Taiwan totaled 303,290 tons in January-August of this year, compared with 432,393 tons in the same period of the previous year.
