Multinational auto company Stellantis is considering a major U.S. expansion, planning to invest about $10 billion in manufacturing facilities in Illinois and Michigan to bolster production and bolster its presence in the world's largest auto market, according to a Bloomberg report. Negotiations are ongoing and no final decision has been made.
The investment is expected to go towards restarting factories, launching new vehicle models, hiring and strengthening brand lines such as Jeep and RAM.
The investment is said to be intended to reduce vulnerability to tariff changes and increasing supply chain resilience. Stellantis is aligning this plan with ongoing trade and tariff negotiations between the US and the EU, ensuring the investment is compatible with the regulatory environment.
