According to the announcement, the plant will use steel from Krivoy Rog, Ukraine, which is also part of the ArcelorMittal group. This step is likely aimed at reducing costs, diversifying supply sources, and possibly supporting Ukraine's economy. However, due to the ongoing war and damaged infrastructure, the long-term reliability of Ukrainian steel remains uncertain. The success of the restart will also depend on market demand and the competitiveness of the cost of production.
Steel supplied from Ukraine, in the form of blanks or flowers, will be additionally processed and rolled into long products at the Hunedoara plant. Meanwhile, the restart of the electric smelter will depend on future changes in electricity and scrap metal prices.
At the same time, the company suspended its voluntary leave program, indicating that the entire workforce would be required to support the restart. This step follows earlier requests for voluntary departure submitted by 10 employees.
