This measure is aimed at supporting energy-intensive companies at risk of carbon leakage, in accordance with European and national regulations.
The main beneficiaries include:
- ArcelorMittal: 76.1 million euros (42.2 million euros for Asturias, 29.2 million euros for factories in the Basque Country)
- Asturiana de Zinc: 66.6 million euros
- Celsa: 28.1 million euros
- Moeve-Cepsa: 23 million euros
- Ferroglobe: 21.7 million euros
- Sidenor: 16 million euros
- Global Steel Wire: 14.2 million euros
- Petronor: 11.5 million euros
- Siderúrgica Sevillana: 11.1 million euros
The financing supports producers of steel, chemical products and non-ferrous metals, industries most susceptible to volatility in electricity prices.
Doubling of last year's support
The 600 million euros allocated this year doubles the 300 euro amount. In 2024, a million dollar package will be provided, which will be one of the largest programs of its kind in Spain.
Since 2019, the Spanish government has mobilized about 2 billion euros in direct aid through various programs to maintain industrial competitiveness and save jobs in strategic sectors.
Improving industrial competitiveness and achieving climate goals
The ministry stressed that the funding, 100 times more than in 2018, underscores Spain's commitment to achieving climate neutrality while protecting industry.
Subsidies are the cornerstone of Spain's green industrial policy, ensuring that domestic producers can compete globally while adapting to the EU's decarbonization system.
