India's Jindal Sustainable limited (JSL) will invest about $150 million to build a new wet grinding plant at its steel plant in the eastern state of Odisha to boost circular production by doubling slag processing capacity, the company said in a statement on Thursday 16 October.
The wet grinding plant will recover valuable metal from industrial waste and conserve natural resources, the company says.
JSL will operate the plant in partnership with Harsco Environmental under a 15-year agreement, and the facility will recoup the investment equivalent by recovering metals from slag, which will contribute to profitability and sustainability, the company added.
This initiative is part of JSL's broader ESG (environmental, social and governance) goal of achieving net zero by 2050. The company reduced carbon emissions by about 14 percent in 2024-25 through green initiatives including India's first green hydrogen plant for stainless steel production and the largest captive solar power plant in Odisha, it said.
