According to an official statement released by the Egyptian government, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, met with Jessica Rosewall, EU Commissioner for the Environment, Water Resilience and Competitive Circular Economy, on the sidelines of the Global Gateway Forum 2025 in Brussels.
Negotiations focused on the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), Egypt's measures to strengthen export competitiveness and national initiatives aimed at energy efficiency and the green transition.
Aligning economic and climate goals
Dr Al-Mashat highlighted the long-standing economic partnership between Egypt and the EU and said that Egypt's Economic Development Narrative focuses on manufacturing sectors in implementing policies to mitigate the impact of CBAM on exports.
She added that the ministry is collaborating with international institutions to mobilize technical assistance, grants and concessional financing that reduce industrial carbon emissions, accelerate the transition to sustainable production, develop manufacturing sector and stimulate exports.
€ 271 million in support of green industry
Under the Green Sustainable Industries (GSI) Development Partners allocated €271 million to reduce industrial pollution, encourage the use of renewable energy and promote sustainable production.
