Japan's hot-rolled sheet shipments fell 10.4 percent in August this year from the previous month and rose 7.4 percent from 558,889 tons recorded in the same month in 2024, amounting to 600,081 metric tons, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF). In the reporting month, 70.7 percent of deliveries were made to the domestic market, and the remaining 29.3 percent to export markets. Japan's hot-rolled sheet output for the month was 633,221 tons, down 4.9 percent month-on-month and down 0.4 percent year-on-year.
Japan's hot-rolled steel shipments, meanwhile, totaled 1.28 million tons in August, down by 4.9 percent from the previous month and an increase of 1.4 percent year on year. 16.5 percent of supplies were made to the domestic market, and the remaining 83.5 percent to export markets. In the reporting month, hot-rolled strip production in Japan was 1.26 million tons, down 8.8 percent month-on-month and down 7.9 percent year-on-year.
