Copper recycling, by recycling scrap copper, can help alleviate supply constraints. Mckinsey partner Sergei Sokolov and his colleagues note that the volume of copper scrap received from consumers has been growing steadily for 40 years, and will grow by 4% annually until 2050. The rise in scrap use is being driven by a number of factors, including a growing number of countries and consumers advocating a circular economy and increased awareness of CO2 emissions generated by metal mining and recycling.
