Iron ore production in the specified period decreased by 0.8 percent year-on-year to 64.08 million tons, compared to the previous quarter - by 8.8 percent. BHP Billiton said it expects its iron ore production to be between 258 and 269 million tonnes in the 2025-26 fiscal year, remaining unchanged.
In the first three months, BHP Billiton metallurgical coal production as a whole decreased 5.5 percent quarter-on-quarter to 4.86 million tons, while production increased 7.7 percent year-on-year due to high production rates at Broadmeadow and increased overburden at open pits. The producer maintained its metallurgical coal production guidance for the 2025-26 financial year at 18-20 million tonnes, although it also disclosed that due to market conditions and the unsustainable impact of Queensland Government royalties on business revenues, Saraji South, part of the Saraji mine complex, will be placed into a care and maintenance period from November 2025.
Mike Henry, CEO of BHP Billiton, stated that based on the dynamics of the current quarter, they are on track to meet their annual recommendations and are making progress in their growth process in Australia and America.
