Swedish miner Nordic Iron has received conditional support of SEK 40 million under a program supported by the Swedish Transport Administration to connect its planned industrial railway station at Blötberget to the state-owned main railway line, the company said. The project represents a critical infrastructure milestone in preparation for the company's planned fossil-free iron ore mining operations.
Principal Financing Conditions
The first condition requires that Nordic Iron's ongoing pre-feasibility study, which is expected to be completed within a year, demonstrates high potential for both technical feasibility and financial viability. Nordic Iron must also secure the remaining SEK 80 million from alternative sources of financing.
The second condition is conditional on the Swedish government's approval of the national infrastructure plan for 2026–2037, which should include specific annual funds for minor rail infrastructure projects. This decision is expected in the first half of 2026.
Committed to fossil-free production
Nordic Iron's long-term goal is to produce ultra-high-grade iron ore concentrate with a low carbon footprint, supporting fossil-free steel production across Europe. The company also plans to extract valuable byproducts containing phosphorus and rare earth elements, materials needed for the transition to green energy.
