Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 728,156 tons in September this year, up 75.2 percent from 415,592 tons in the same month the previous year, according to customs statistics. Between January and September this year, the country exported 5.67 million tons of scrap, up 21.5 percent from last year.
During the period, Vietnam was the largest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 2.46 million tons, up 37.1 percent from last year. Vietnam was followed by Bangladesh and South Korea, which imported 992,316 tons and 958,190 tons of scrap, up 149.8 percent and down 22.2 percent, respectively, year-on-year.
Meanwhile, Japanese scrap exports to Taiwan totaled 332,222 tons between January and September this year, decreasing from 476,497 tons in the same period last year.
