India's ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel limited (AMNS) has received environmental clearance simultaneously from the Federal Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Andhra Pradesh government for its first phase of 8.2 million tonne per annum (MTPA) new steel plant, the company said in a statement on Monday, November 3.
The company said the steel plant will be developed in several phases, with the first phase targeting integrated steelmaking capacity of 8.2 million tonnes per annum, with eventual expansion planned to be 24 million tonnes per annum.
“The site will use advanced, energy efficient and low emission technologies that meet global sustainability and carbon management standards,” the company said.
“Thanks to environmental approvals, all major approvals for the project were obtained in just 14 months - a record a deadline that emphasizes effective project management by the state and a proactive investment promotion ecosystem,” he added.
