Mineral Resources Limited (MinRes), a leading Australian mining and processing company, has announced the start of production at the Upper Reed and Cardo Boron Eastern hub of the Onslow Iron project in Western Australia, marking an important milestone for the company's flagship iron ore development.
Strategic context and operations
The center is located approximately 16 km south of Buraken and is the second mining area in Onslow Iron that is connected to the network. Ore from the hub is transported via a special in-house highway to the Ken's Bore crushing and processing infrastructure, and then via a 150-kilometer private highway to the port of Ashburton. From there, ore is shipped using transshipment vessels 40 km from the coast to ocean vessels.
MinRes emphasized that the work is proceeding efficiently and safely, and that the new hub is a key factor in Onslow's mixed product offering, which continues to be in high demand in the market.
The scale of the project and market importanceOnslow Iron is a pioneering mine-to-ship model focused on an annual rated capacity of 35 million tons with a service life of over 30 years. The project has already demonstrated its logistical strength: the Upper Cane hub has joined Ken's Bore to unlock high-grade deposits in the Western Pilbara.
The concentrator started production with high-grade ore contributing to the mixed product. In August 2025, Onslow Iron's supply chain reached record shipments
