Norwegian iron ore producer and supplier Rana Gruber has announced that it plans to convert its production to high-grade iron ore concentrate with an iron content of about 67 percent Fe by 2029.
Having recently completed its Fe65 project - increasing the iron content of concentrates from about 62 percent in 2020 to 65 percent - the company says this milestone has been achieved and fully has paid off.
Chief Executive Gunnar Moe said supplying high-quality iron ore was “the most important contribution we can make to meeting emissions targets.” He pointed to the company's resource base, operational efficiency and customer relationships as a strong foundation for the next phase of value creation.
The strategic roadmap includes maintaining cost discipline, improving product quality, unlocking the full resource base and delivering attractive returns to shareholders. The push for Fe67 is consistent with the steel industry's shift to low-carbon technologies that require higher quality raw materials.
Positioning itself as a premium supplier to the emerging high-grade iron ore market, Rana Gruber is seeking to capitalize on tightening supplies and growing demand among green steel producers.
In its Q3 2025 update, Rana Gruber said about production of 472,000 tons.
