The government of the western Indian coastal state of Goa has successfully auctioned off 748,000 tons of iron ore, landfills, spent ore and tailings lying in idle landfills in the region, a government official said on Wednesday, November 19.The official said that almost the entire volume of 750,000 tons was successfully offered by buyers at an auction held on November 13-14.
Volumes were idle at leased sites, including Dharbandora, Kodli, Mayem, Sirigao, Pale and Vagus, he said.Notable buyers included Sesa Resources, Chowgule & Company Ltd, Salgaocar Shipping, RKB Global, Venkateshwara Power and Ascent Ore.
The auction rules stipulated that the purchased ore must be removed from the relevant warehouses within 90 days of the final award, otherwise both the ore and the payment would be confiscated.
According to the official, this was the 31st auction held in accordance with the verdict of the Supreme Court, which ordered the Goa government to sell iron ore left unclaimed in idle landfills.
