The agreement defines cooperation to ensure the continuous production and supply of steel needed for transmission poles, an essential component of South Korea's expanding energy system. Hyundai Steel will supply high-quality low-carbon corner steel and other necessary raw materials. These materials will facilitate the transfer of renewable energy products generated in the coastal regions of South Korea to large industrial centers and megacities.
Strengthening the capacity of renewable energy
In addition to the supply of materials, the Memorandum of Understanding includes cooperation in the field of next-generation transmission tower technologies. These upgrades are designed to meet South Korea's future power grid capacity needs as the country increases the density of transmission lines, integrates more renewable energy sources, and expands inter-regional connectivity.
Hyundai Steel said that despite difficult market conditions characterized by declining domestic and global demand and rising production costs, it intends to strengthen its role as a key supplier for national industrial development. The company considers the strengthening of cooperation with KEPCO as an opportunity to expand its portfolio of high-value-added steels for use in modern energy infrastructure.
The partnership also supports broader national goals to strengthen supply chain stability, enhance network resilience, and promote more sustainable industrial transformation.
