In a statement released on Wednesday, November 26, the Italian steel company Acciaierie d'Italia (formerly Ilva) announced that converter No. 1 at steel plant No. 2 in Taranto is operational again.
As previously reported by SteelOrbis, the converter was shut down on November 14 due to an uncontrolled slag spill that damaged the lower part of the movable skirt. Then the company clarified that there was no explosion and the whole event was resolved in accordance with the External Emergency Plan.
As expected, the repair work took only a few days, which allowed the transition from converter No. 2, which was used during this period of downtime, to converter No. 1.
With the deconservation of converter No. 1, the plant continues to normalize its production activities, and further work continues. Other stations that have been undergoing repairs in recent weeks are still in progress.
