In November, when preliminary data showed that total volumes were lower, iron ore exports from Australia, Brazil, South Africa and India showed mixed dynamics. The total volume of shipments amounted to 117 million tons, which is 6 percent less than 124.45 million tons in October. India's exports rose 27 percent month-on-month as supplies improved after the rainy season and mining companies released fresh material. South Africa and India recorded growth, while Australia and Brazil saw declines during the month.
Australian exports decreased by 10 percent month-on-month
Exports of iron ore and pellets from Australia totaled 73.7 million tons in November, down 10 percent from 81.9 million tons in October, according to ship composition data compiled by BigMint.
China remained the largest importer, receiving 63.2 million tons (down 7.3 percent month-on-month), followed by Japan with 3.8 million tons and South Korea with 3.5 million tons.
BHP was the leading exporter with 25.2 million tons, followed by Rio Tinto (down 19.3 percent month-on-month) with 24.6 million tons and Fortescue with 24.6 million tons. 17 million tons
The slight drop was primarily due to a slowdown in ship turnover and ongoing maintenance at major Pilbara ports, including Port Hedland, Walcott and Dampier, combined with increased market competition.
Exports from Brazil decreased by 3 percent month-on-month
Brazil's iron ore exports fell 2.7 percent to 36.07 million tons in November from 37.08 million tons a month earlier. Nevertheless, exports increased by 5.5 percent from 34.18 million tons in November 2024.
China remained the largest importer, accepting 26.12 million tons, followed by Malaysia with 1.57 million tons and the Netherlands with 0.93 million tons
Brazil's exports declined slightly as Chinese buyers diversified their exports. However, initial shipments of new Simandou ore helped mitigate the overall volume. However, the reduction in purchases from the main importers of Northeast Asia increased the pressure on market sentiment.
