The EU CBAM Committee voted to adopt default emission benchmarks and values until the Carbon Boundary Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is fully implemented on January 1, 2026. The official approval of the Commission is scheduled for December 16, as SteelOrbis understands.
According to a confirmed report published by the European Commission, each Combined Nomenclature (CN) code receives both a process benchmark for use in actual data calculations and a default reference for default value calculations. For many flat, semi-finished and long products, including hot-rolled, cold-rolled, galvanized products, slabs, billet, rebar and wire rod, three separate reference values are provided, reflecting the routes BF-BOF, DRI-EAF and scrap-EAF.
