Under the agreement, TSR40, made from post-consumer scrap, including end-of-life vehicles and mixed scrap at TSR's plants in Duisburg, Hamburg and Amsterdam, will be used as high-quality recycled raw materials in blast furnace operations at Thyssenkrupp Steel. The cooperation supports the reduction of carbon emissions in steel production while maintaining the properties of traditional steel grades in automotive, packaging, household appliances, wind energy and electric mobility.
Philippe Konze, Chief Financial Officer of Thyssenkrupp Steel, described TSR40 as a key element of the company's decarbonization strategy, enabling customers to reduce Scope 3 emissions and meet the growing demand for steel with a higher secondary content. The use of TSR40 is said to form the basis for Thyssenkrupp bluemint® recycled steel, which retains standard performance characteristics while reducing the carbon footprint of production.
