According to the monthly consumer trends survey published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the consumer confidence index* in Turkey, which stood at 85.0 points in November this year, decreased by 1.8 percent month-on-month in December this year to 83.5 points, having previously increased by 1.6 percent in November.
According to the indices based on individual questions asked by Turkish consumers about consumer trends, in December the index of the overall current economic situation decreased by three percent compared to the previous month to 55.4 points, and the index of the overall economic situation in the next 12 months decreased by 1.8 percent compared to November to 78.2 points.
At the same time, in this month, the index of whether the present is a good time to purchase durable goods increased by 3.2 percent to 62.8 points, and the index of the probability of buying durable goods next month. Over the 12 months, it decreased by 2.3 percent to 102.6 points on a monthly basis.
In December, the probability of buying a car in the next 12 months increased by 3.8 percent to 24.2 points, while the index of the probability of buying or building a house in the next 12 months increased by 1.9 percent to 15.2 points in both months.
*When the index is above 100, it indicates an optimistic forecast, when it is equal to 100, it indicates a neutral forecast, and below 100 indicates a pessimistic forecast.
