Poland's Ministry of National Defense has officially completed the acquisition of local steel mill Huta Częstochowa, securing the company's future as a strategic asset for Poland's defense and industrial supply chains, according to local media reports. The ministry acquired the company for approximately PLN 253.8 million (USD 70.79 million), reflecting its importance for national security and the production of high-quality steel.
This acquisition marks a historical milestone for the Polish steel sector and defense industry. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Poland's Deputy Prime Minister, called the purchase key to ensuring domestic supplies of specialized steel needed for defense production and infrastructure.
In parallel with the acquisition, an agreement of intent was signed between the ministry, the defense industrial company Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa and Huta Częstochowa to coordinate efforts to use the plant's capabilities for the Polish defense sector, in particular in the production of specialized steel products, which are used in military equipment and in dual-use applications.
The purpose of the acquisition is to stabilize the supply chain for strategic steel products, support regional industrial employment and ensure that Guta Czestochowa's unique manufacturing capabilities remain under state control as part of Poland's broader defense industrial base.
