India's Jindal Steel limited (JSL) has planned to expand the structural steel production capacity at its Raigarh plant to 2.4 million tonnes per annum from 1.2 million tonnes per annum, the company said in a statement on Monday, December 29.
The expansion project will be completed by 2028.
The expansion will significantly increase the availability of heavy and ultra-heavy structural steel profiles in India, it said.
As part of the expansion roadmap, JSL will commission a new dedicated structural steel plant, as well as upgrade advanced mining and processing technologies.
This will enable the production of larger, heavier and complex parallel flanged sections required for next generation infrastructure and energy projects.
The company currently produces parallel flanged sections with diameters ranging from 100 mm to 900 mm, with section weights up to 333 kg per meter. Thanks to the ongoing expansion, production capabilities will be expanded to extra-heavy profiles reaching depths of 1100 mm and 1500 kg per meter
