Brazilian pig iron exports reached 273,100 tons in December, up from 354,100 tons in November, according to foreign trade authority SECEX.
The decline mainly reflects lower shipments to the United States: 211,300 tons at $392 per ton, compared with 289,100 tons at $384 per ton in November, FOB conditions.
Other destinations in December were Europe (59,500 tons at $389 per ton), Asia (2,100 tons at $490 per ton) and Argentina (200 tons at $707 per ton).
Supplies were from independent producers in the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo. (194,900 tonnes), from Pará in the north (49,200 tonnes) and Mato Grosso do Sul in the central-west regions (29,000 tonnes at US$400 per tonne).
Such prices were likely agreed in October, with a BPI grade price below 400 per tonne and a foundry above that price.
In 2025, Brazil exported a total of 4.059 million tons of pig iron at an average price of US$412 per ton, which compares with 3.764 million tons at FOB price of US$439 per ton in 2024.
