The International Finance Corporation announced that it is considering a debt financing package of up to $80 million for Singapore-based Green Esteel Pte. Ltd., to support equipment replacement, refurbishment and working capital at Eden Flame's existing smelter in Malaysia.
Eden Flame is operated by Eden Flame Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Green Esteel.
Plant modernization and replacement assets
The project focuses on modernizing the plant by removing obsolete assets and installing new production equipment. Planned activities include the removal of the existing electric arc furnace and replacement with a new one, the removal of obsolete rolling lines and the installation of upgraded rolling lines, and the provision of additional working capital to support operations. The modernization is designed to reduce productivity losses, reduce energy consumption and improve overall operating efficiency and productivity.
New steelmaking and rolling complex
IFC financing will support the installation of a new steelmaking and rolling complex, including a 50-ton, two-station Consteel arc furnace a ladle furnace with a ladle transport car and a continuous casting machine for the production of billets.
The facility also includes a comprehensive dedusting system, including a primary and secondary fume removal system, bag filtration and emission control systems.
Subsequent facilities will include a high-speed rolling mill rebar mill equipped with Tempcore system, natural gas fired heating furnace, enclosed scrap storage and processing bays, value added rebar cutting and bending facility, refurbished rebar and scrap workshops, overhead crane systems and supporting infrastructure such as transformers, fire protection. systems, water treatment plants, drainage, rainwater harvesting, security structures and infrastructure. All major technical equipment will be supplied by Chinese manufacturers.
Design capacity and production flow
After commissioning, the plant is designed to achieve 600,000 tons per year in steel production and 600,000 tons per year in reinforcement production.
