The U.S. Metal Service Centers Institute (MSCI) reported mixed activity for North American steel and aluminum shipments through December 2025.
MSCI said its North American service centers completed an "uneven" performance as steel shipments remained slightly lower than the previous year. Steel shipments to U.S. service centers were down 1.5 percent from December 2024 on a seasonally adjusted basis, while aluminum shipments were up 4.3 percent. In Canada, steel shipments fell 0.4 percent and aluminum shipments fell 3.3 percent over the same month in 2024. These data explain the uneven demand at the end of 2025: in the US market, aluminum is ahead of steel
