Sales of flat rolled steel by Brazilian distributors reached 248,300 tons in December, up from 311,900 tons in November, according to industry institute INDA.
On a comparative basis, INDA-related distribution chain acquisitions decreased by 6.2 percent to 298,200 tons, while inventory levels increased by 4.6 percent to 1,129 million tons. This is equivalent to 4.9 months of consumption, which is considered an extremely high level in the sector, as it exceeds the benchmark of 2.8 months. Imports in December decreased by 22.6 percent to 205,700 tons, including heavy sheets, HRC, CRC, galvanized, HDG, pre-painted and electroplated products. Compared to December 2024, sales in December 2025 decreased by 0.4 percent, purchases increased by 5.7 percent, and imports increased by 66.6 percent. INDA expects acquisitions and sales to increase by 15 percent in January 2025 compared to December 2025. Carlos Loureiro, executive president of Inda, confirmed that Brazilian manufacturers of rolled products raised the prices of their products by 5-8 percent in January, with the exact increase varying depending on the specific product.
