SMS Group opens new production facility in Ahmedabad to serve Indian steel market

SMS Group открывает новое производство в Ахмадабаде для обслуживания индийского рынка стали
The German plant manufacturer SMS Group has announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Sanand near Ahmedabad, marking a further expansion of the company's manufacturing presence in India.

Facility size and production capacity

SMS Group stated that the new production site will produce machinery and equipment for processing flat and long steel products, as well as forging technology. The company is designed to produce components weighing up to 125 tons and assemble entire production lines.

According to the company, about 160 SMS employees, along with 400 contractors, will support operations at the new site, strengthening SMS Group's global quality production network.

India-oriented production strategy

The company explained that the new 80,000 square meter facility represents SMS Group's second manufacturing plant in India, complementing the existing Bhubaneswar manufacturing site, which has been operating since 2014.

SMS Group noted that while the Bhubaneswar plant focuses on machinery and equipment for metallurgy and maintenance, the Sanand plant expands the company's production area. Together, these two locations form a complementary production ecosystem, increasing efficiency and expanding the product diversity in the SMS Group portfolio.
