Global DRI production increased 5.3 percent in 2025

According to data released by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel), global direct reduction iron (DRI) production in 12 countries, accounting for approximately 85 percent of total global DRI production in 2024, totaled 11.04 million metric tons in December 2025, down 1.7 percent per month and an increase of 14.4 percent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, global DRI production was 129.2 million metric tons in 2025, up 5.3 percent from 2024.

Worldsteel data shows that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed last December, with its production of 5.2 million metric tons of DRI in that month. India was followed in December by Iran, Russia and Egypt with production volumes of 3 million tons, 700,000 tons and 645,000 tons, respectively.
