Export orders for new vessels in Japan decreased by 16.5% in 2025

According to data released by the Japan Ship Exporters Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in December last year increased by 137.7 percent in tonnage from the previous month, rising to 27 vessels, including six general cargo vessels and 21 carriers, compared with 18 vessels registered in November, totaling 1.54 million gross tons.

In 2025, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 186 vessels with a total volume of 8.94 million gross tons, which is 16.5 percent less year-on-year.

On the other hand, Japan exported eight vessels totaling 374,664 gross tons in December, compared with 13 vessels totaling 578,351 gross tons registered in November.

Meanwhile, in 2025, Japan exported 191 vessels totaling 8.32 million gross tons, an increase of 1.2 percent compared to 2024.
