The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Morocco announced the beginning of a review of the protective measures for imports of hot-rolled rolled products after an application was submitted by local steel producer Maghreb Steel.
The protective measure was initially applied from June 19, 2020 to June 18, 2023 in the form of an additional duty of 25 percent applicable for three years. This additional fee was reduced by one percentage point per year during the application period. The measure was extended on June 19, 2023 for an additional three-year period in the form of an additional fee of 22 percent, also subject to an annual reduction of one percentage point. The current duty is 20 percent. The review aims to determine whether a protective measure remains necessary to eliminate or prevent serious damage or not.
The parties who consider themselves interested in the investigation have 30 days from the start date, that is, no later than 16:00 on Thursday, February 26, 2026, to declare themselves as interested parties. During the same 30-day period, interested parties may also submit written opinions and comments on the initiation of the investigation, regardless of the responses to the questionnaire.
The investigations exclude imports of the product in question from developing WTO countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Mexico.
The relevant products are currently subject to the customs
