In 2025, China began new construction work to renovate 27,100 old city blocks with a total investment of 133.2 billion yuan (US$19 billion), as announced by China's Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD).
The overall goal for 2025 was to start renovating 25,000 old city blocks, which means that the annual target was exceeded.
